SBUS Graduate and Undergraduate “Poster” Conference Guidelines 2013

Poster Set – Up on the Event Day
1. All posters must be set up by 10:30 AM in the Business Building.  Students will be assigned a location for their display.  (Display stands will be provided.)
2. Presenters (student or students) of the posters must stand with the display and answer questions about the project to the RMU community.  The student(s) will answer questions from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.  The poster will stay on display till 2:00 PM.  The poster will be collected upon completion by the School and used at other events to promote students’ work.
3. At the event students should have complete copies of their projects for reference or for questions and answers.
4. Students should rehearse talking points about their research / boards.  They should also be prepared to answer questions individuals (viewing the posters) might ask about the projects.

Design and Layout Specifications
1. Each poster will be mounted on a 40” x 60” foam-core board.
2. The banner at the top of a poster must display the title of the project, student(s) name, major, course title and faculty member’s name. 
3. Displays may be either vertical or horizontal.  
4. The content for each poster should be progressive and easy for the viewer to understand.
a)      Lettering should be in a standard plain text and readable from five feet away.
a)      Use a minimum font size of 18 points for text.
b)      Titles should be at least 70 point font and bold type face.
c)       All lettering needs to be printed on the board.

b)      Visuals
a)      Each visual should have a brief title, description, and be numbered sequentially
b)      The visuals should be simple and easy  to read
c)       Figures should highlight the data
d)      Tie the visuals to the text
c)       Text
a)      Introduction (Objectives and Summary of Results)
     i.      Introduce the study (“What hypothesis was tested?”  or  “What problem was investigated?” or  “Why did you complete this project?”)
b)      Body (Methods, Result, Discussion)
      i.      Explanation or interpretation of the data
     ii.      Tie the visual to the body copy

c)       Conclusion
      i.      Project conclusion
     ii.      Will future research be needed?

d)      Determine the visual content and coordinate the written and visual content for the most effective use of space.

e)      Color will enhance the comprehension and visual appeal.

f)       Cite and reference any information that is not your own.  Use APA style and cite all sources at the end of the poster.

Printing Requirements
1. Students must review content with faculty member. The faculty member should approve the content of the poster.  Convert content to a PDF Format before printing.  (Do not use Power Point to set-up the poster.)
2. All projects should be submitted in PDF format and the font change turned “off” by the Faculty to (will be announced after Secretaries are hired and assigned.
3. Timeline for “poster” printing
a)      Finalized  “posters” received by the Faculty Members - Monday, April 15, 2013.
b)      Faculty will review, convert to final PDF files and send the finalized PDF to (will be announced after Secretaries are hired and assigned by Wednesday, April 17, 2013.
c)       “Posters” will be delivered to the staging area for the event Monday, April 29, 2013.

Introducing Dean Beehler!

Robert Morris University welcomes Dr. John M. Beehler (Ph.D., CPA) as the new Dean for the School of Business. Dr. Beehler has an extensive professional background in both the field of Accounting and Higher Education. 

Dr. Beehler has been with Robert Morris University since January of 2013. He chose to come to RMU because he sees immense potential for RMU’s School of Business going into the future. He says that he strives to “bring the School of Business to greater levels of excellence.” 

Some of Dr. Beehler’s plans for the RMU School of Business in the near future include:
    • Strategic planning efforts to renew the School of Business’ AACSB accreditation
    • Hire a sufficient number of Accounting and Management professors to ensure AACSB learning assessment
    • Re-connect with RMU School of Business alumni
    • Build a stronger relationship between the University and the local Business community
    • Achieve a separate AACSB accreditation for the Accounting Program
Dr. Beehler did not originally plan to work in Higher Education. He was working for Haskin & Sells, now Deloitte, which is a big 8 International Accounting Firm when he decided that he wanted to attend graduate school. He entered into the MBA program at Indiana University, where he qualified to be an associate instructor in order to pay his way through the program. When he first started graduate school, he intended on entering back into the corporate world. However, during his time as an associate instructor, he found higher education to be a more rewarding field. He then went on to earn his Ph.D. in Accounting and Taxation with a minor in Law.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Beehler is a husband and father. He has been married to his wife Pamela for 36 years. They have a daughter, Kristin, who graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and serves as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Dr. Beehler enjoys spending time with his family and loves sports and fitness. He says “I used to play tennis, now I love to golf.” He enjoys running, biking and weightlifting. 

The RMU School of Business looks forward seeing Dean Beehler’s plans for the school unfold successfully! 

Pittsburgh Pirates - Internship Position Available!

Attention all students,

Available part-time internship coordinated through a partnership with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Boys and Girls Club of Western PA.
 
This is a Boys and Girls Club of Western PA internship that will work in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Pirates with the execution of the Pittsburgh RBI youth baseball and softball program. Internship will provide hands on experience in the coordination of youth baseball and softball for various Pittsburgh and surrounding communities.

Intern will directly assist with growth, development and execution of all function related Pittsburgh RBI!


One applicant will be secured by early May. Internship will start sometime in the middle of the month. Students that require college credit for an internship are encouraged to apply but college credits are not required. 

How to apply? Interested students should send a cover letter and resume to Chaz Kellem, the Manager of Diversity Initiatives with the Pittsburgh Pirates for consideration. This internship plans to run mid-May through early August.

Congratulations Corey Beynon!

Corey Beynon, a recent graduate of Robert Morris University, accepted a job offer as the Search Specialist with IMPAQT. 

At IMPAQT, the Search Specialist will support the Search Account Manager in the development and execution of strategic and tactical initiatives designed to improve the online visibility of client Web sites within Paid and Organic search engine results.
 
Benyon will start March 11th as his new position.
