Dean's Reception

The RMU School of Business had its annual Dean's Reception on Friday, August 22nd. The purpose of the Dean's Reception is to allow incoming and transfer students to meet the Dean and faculty and socialize.
Dean John Beehler, Ph.D gave a brief speech about the School of Business and what his goals and expectations are for the school, not just for the coming academic year, but for years to come.
Dean Beehler wants to continue the success students have had and further entrench the legacy Robert Morris University has with the School of Business.
Dean Beehler was then joined by Interim Associate Dean Patrick Litzinger, Ph.D and he shared his goals and legacy with the students.
The students that did arrive were treated to beverages and a raffle for various School of Business items. Some of the items up for grabs were a fleece blanket, a leather portfolio and notepad, various polo shirts, a few day planners, a stainless steel coffee mug and several bag style backpacks.

The goods that were up for grabs.

Dean Beehler then introduced the department heads and the event segued to each of the concentrations. Dr. David "Buddha" Budziszewski (Undeclared), Dr. David Synowka (Sports Management), Dr. Marcel Minutolo (Management), Dr. Patrick Litzinger (Economics/Legal Studies), Mrs. Carol MacPhail MS (Accounting), Dr. Drank Flanegin (Finance), Dr. Denis Rudd (Hospitality Management) and Dr. Steven Clinton (Marketing) were there with various other faculty members to help break the ice with the students and set them at ease.

Welcome Back Students!

Believe it or not, summer is officially over and class is now in session. It is now time to start focusing on classes and making that all important dean’s list. If you’re a freshman, or just haven’t taken the opportunity yet, I suggest going to the activities fair and seeing what Robert Morris University has to offer. The activities fair will be held Wednesday, September the 4th from 11 am to 2 pm at the Nicholson fire pit. This will give you all a change to see what clubs are offered at Robert Morris University. These clubs may pertain to your major, your sports interests, or even something that’s just fun to do. No matter what club that you decide to join, they all have one thing in common: opportunities.

Clubs like the American Marketing Association and Sports Management Association are just two of the many clubs that are specific to your major. Joining these clubs will not only give you many opportunities, but they will also open a lot of doors for you after your college career. Another thing joining clubs will do is give you friends that have the same major as you. Having a group of friends with the same major gives you the opportunity to form study groups. Even the non-academic clubs on campus have students in them that will provide the same kind of help. What’s so great about RMU is that there are numerous amounts of people that are willing to help, you just have to ask.

A common misconception is that professors are way too busy to meet with you outside of class. Here at RMU, that is not the case at all. In fact, professors actually seem to enjoy helping their students out whenever they can, after all it is their job. Meeting with your professors will help you build a closer relationship with them. I know from my experience with meeting with my professors that good things have come from it. Now when I see my previous professors here on campus we are both more inclined to say hi. Professors have scheduled times where they have open office hours for you to come and ask questions, or you can schedule an appointment to meet them at a different time. It can be a little intimidating going to meet a professor for help, but rest assured that it is not at all as bad as you may think.

Attending a university where you have all of these helpful people is refreshing. That is a part of why so many students get excited to come back every year. There isn’t a professor here that wants to see their students fail. Being an active member on campus helps you meet people and make connections that you otherwise couldn’t have if you kept to yourself. College is a time to break out of your shell and try things that may have frightened you in the past. Just remember to not be afraid to put yourself out there, make memories, and most importantly, study hard.
